SUN-SHIER DANCE THEATRE

Sun-Shier, despite having only five full-time dancers the company, makes a point of also having a professional administrator in addition to its two founder/choreographers. But it also seems to be a constant in Taiwan 's most successful dance companies.

From International Arts Manager Magazine by Mike Farish

Pi-Jung Wu and Hsiu-Ping Chang founded Sun-Shier Dance Theatre, considered the most promising young dance company in Taiwan , in 1997. Reflecting the age of its founders, Sun-Shier means thirty in Chinese and symbolizes the perfect era of creativity. It is a time that tests the past yet pushes one to face the future.

Sun-Shier Dance Theatre is widely recognized for its provocative choreography and talented dancers. In its year s of existence, the company has invited over twenty choreographers to set new work; produced twelve repertoires and performed a hundred performances throughout Taiwan . Grounded in the belief that dance can be presented without the limitation of environment, Sun-Shier Dance Theatre has successfully attracted audiences by presenting dance in diverse locations including outdoor gardens, dance studios, art galleries and school auditoriums.

By gathering young and creative Taiwanese choreographers and providing a vehicle through which they can demonstrate their talents, Sun-Shier Dance Theatre is renowned for its ability to present various dance styles. Dance critic Chi-Mu Tso once remarked, The work reveals a wide range of choreographic ambition and imagery that enables the audience to pay a great deal of attention to this company .” (Quoted from Internet Performing Arts Magazine: “Intelligent Women” by Chi-Mu Tso)
